The
Lot in South West France, has some 420 places classified as of 'Historic Interest'.
Fortified castles such as Castelnau and religious sanctuaries like Rocamadour
are but a few of the stories the area has to tell.
Rocamadour
is one of the most famous historic monuments in France. A famous pilgrimage
stopover on the route to St. Jaques de Compostela, Rocamadour is only about
half an hour away from us. A number of interesting myths and mysteries surround
Rocamadour. For instance, the miracle bell in the chapel at Rocamadour hangs
high above and out of reach of any man. But throughout history, it is said
to have tolled when a miracle was about to happen.
Elsewhere, many an ancient medieval structure invites exploration. Every chapel
you visit or castle you explore takes you back to the simpler, but more daunting
days, when to be English around these parts would not have exactly made you
as welcome as today!
Thankfully, The Hundred Years War is no longer the issue it was, and we are
left just to marvel and wonder at the ancient
villages, architecture, monuments, fortifications and legends that
is the rich
legacy left to The Lot region of South West France.
